The Animist

Animists are Pure spell users of Channeling specializing in studies and powers concerning living things (e.g., druids, priests, etc.). Their base spells deal with plants, animals, weather, and nature in general.

Rosa was content. She had her garden, a pair of lovely children, a wonderful husband (well, if he would spend more time with the children; and less with that no-good Shem). She even had the animals, who helped her keep her garden clean. Yes, life was good.

Story

The First Animist

Rosa did not remember her origins; her earliest memory was of playing in the woods. She had always possessed a deep love of nature, of life and all things that grow, and of things that didn’t, like the rocks in the pools, the sound of the water trickling in the stream, the rustle of leaves in the wind.

Her parents were never known to her. It is said that she was first found purely by chance, by a traveller. It is said that she was found as a baby, and sat high up in a tall tree that was unreachable.

When the man returned to that place with a ladder, the baby was gone, and none of the village-folk believed the traveller’s story of a baby in the woods.

But over time this began to change. As years passed, more and more people began to tell stories of a child in the woods, who over time became the girl in the woods, and eventually, the woman in the woods.

She always seemed to evade people, who on several occasions set out to try to look for her, believing she needed help. But she was never found. Only glimpses of her were ever seen.

Some believed she was not real at all, just an illusion or some magic. Perhaps it was a wizard who was toying with them, or some spell that was somehow acting on its own.

The people of the village never did find out, not until one day, when a young man entered the forest and saw her for the first time.

Of course, he had heard stories of her, but always believed these were just tales.
On this day of their first encounter, he was so pre-occupied with his fresh kill, as he was hunting rabbits, that he did not notice her. Not until she tapped him on the shoulder.

At first, he believed her to be some sort of goddess, a spirit of the woods. He feared she would punish him for killing the forest’s creatures, but she only smiled, telling him:

“There is no life, without death….”

And these were the first words she has ever been known to have spoken.

Some believed she was not real at all, just an illusion or some magic… that was until the young hunter managed to coax her out of the forest, and share with her the world in which he lived in. The one outside the safety of the woods.

She settled with him, eventually marrying him, and becoming a mother to two wonderful children, who were so much like her…. magic and all….
